Senior Pastor - Hawthorn Church of Christ (Hawthorn, South Australia)

Posted: Thu, 6th November 2008

Church Description

  • Conservative Evangelical

  • A number of auxiliary leaders (volunteers)

Reason for the new position

Current Pastor has had to resign because of treatment he is having for a health issue unrelated to church activity. We are, therefore, seeking a Senior Pastor who will replace our current one.

Expectations

Ideally our new appointee will be a man who is...

  • Theologically trained
  • Conservative Evangelical
  • Baptistically convinced
  • An able preacher/teacher
  • A team Manager

One who treats the scriptures as...

  • The divinely inspired Word of God
  • The final authority for life and practise
  • Inerrant in the original manuscripts

Duties

It is expected that the Senior Pastor will perform the normal duties of a pastor (visitation, counselling as required, sermon preparation, marriages, funerals, team meetings, etc.).

It is also expected that his wife will support her husband and, if she so desires, become involved wherever she is gifted. There is no expectation that the Pastor?s wife is to be involved anywhere within the church, only that she fully supports her husband.

Services are presided over by various worship leaders and others who lead in pastoral prayer, scripture reading, and notices. Also the celebration of the Lord?s Supper is presided over by one of the people in the congregation. All serve on a rostered basis.

Should the new Pastor want to be involved in worship leading or any other of the rostered roles he would be able to join the roster for those functions but this is not a requirement.

The Senior Pastor would be accountable first to God, and then to the Eldership of the church.

Term

The initial term would be for three years but is able to be extended by mutual consent and agreement of the Elders. The Appointee would commence as soon as is practical after the end of October 2008.
